Alleviating Menopausal Hot Flashes Naturally With Acupuncture

Alleviating Menopausal Hot Flashes Naturally With Acupuncture
02 Sep 2016
Nowadays, most women going through their perimenopausal or menopausal stage are prescribed HRT or hormone replacement therapy in order to combat the hot flashes. However, the HRT drugs provide only temporary relief from the discomfort and are rendered ineffective soon after their discontinuation. In order to impede menopausal hot flashes permanently, determining the primary cause of the problem and resolving it is essential. Fortunately, there exists a certain form of alternative therapy that can actually make this happen, and that therapy is none other than acupuncture.

According to TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) experts, acupuncture helps in reducing menopause symptoms along with hot flashes to provide long-term relief, whereas HRT drugs only mask the symptoms as long as they are administered. The former therapy actually dives down to the root of the problem and then cures it naturally without any side effects.

In the context of TCM, there are two cardinal energies within the body of an individual - they are known as Yin & Yang, the cooling, fluid energy of the moon and heating, sharp energy of the sun respectively. Both of them keep fluctuating throughout the lifespan of a human being. During or after the onset of menopause, the balance between Yin and Yang gets disturbed due to the typical deficiency of the former. It is indicated by symptoms of depression, edema and cold. Without the cooling effect of the lunar energy Yin, the hot solar Yang becomes dominant, and hence the hot flashes. The spirit of the woman becomes restless because of an agitated nervous system.

Acupuncture is one of most effective modalities of TCM that can help to nourish the Yin through specific points referred to as Yin tonifiers in ancient texts of Chinese medicine. Since the kidneys are the root of Yin and Yang in the body, practitioners generally address the organs through particular acupoints.

In addition to acupuncture therapy, a licensed practitioner can also use herbal medicine for revitalising the Yin, nourishing the kidneys, reducing sweating & hot flashes and soothing the spirit. The traditional formula for hot flashes experienced during menopause is Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan.
