Worst Diseases That Too Much Smoking Can Inflict
27 Feb 2017
Most of us are very much aware of the fact that smoking cigarettes, either occasionally or regularly, can be injurious to one's health. But what exactly can happen if someone has a habit of smoking excessively? Well, there is a wide range of diseases which can afflict that person. Let’s take a detailed look at them:
Cardiovascular Disease
Too much smoking can have a drastic impact on all organs within one’s body, including the one which pumps blood - the heart. It can narrow the cardiac arteries and also create blockages, thereby hindering the flow of blood as well as oxygen. Ultimately, it can trigger various heart problems.
Lung Cancer
Lung cancer kills more people every year than other kinds of cancer, and it is primarily caused by excessive cigarette smoking. Once a person has been diagnosed with the disease, their chances of staying alive for 5 years is less than 1 out of 5.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD is an illness of the lungs which causes difficulty in breathing. It can make a person feel very inactive and prevent them from performing daily tasks, such as climbing stairs, walking to a friend’s house, etc. COPD is triggered by too much smoking in more than 80% of people suffering from the illness.
Asthma is one serious lung condition that is only worsened even by occasional smoking. As puffing a cigarette irritates the air passages, it can cause severe and sudden asthma attacks. It dampens the swift movement of air in & out of the lungs.
Since smoking cigarettes affects the arteries, it can even cause one to suffer from stroke. When blood circulation to the brain gets blocked temporarily, it results in a stroke. It can have various after effects, such as slurred speech, paralysis or even death.
Cataracts & Blindness
Last but not the least, smoking, if done excessively, can even harm one’s eyes and result in blindness in severe cases. In fact, it is one of the leading causes of cataracts in people aged 65 or more.
If you or someone close to you is addicted to smoking, have them receive Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment from Robert Bradford of Northside Acupuncture. Don’t let smoking take away precious years from a healthy life.
