Fertility is an issue that most women happily have no problems with, but a certain percentage of women have difficulties concieving, at Northside Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic, I have for over thirteen years been working with women who unfortunately are having to dealing with these issues. In most instances it is just a matter of balancing the Yin or Yang aspect of a womans monthly cycle, that is to say balancing the energy so that both Yin and Yang are in harmony, with a womans cycle the Yin aspect relates to the Follicular stage of her cycle, Yin is the fluid side of the cycle so this deals with the actual menstruation, building of a new lining to the womb, developement of follicles prior to ovulation, ensuring a good supply of blood to the new lining and adequate Eostrogen levels and FSH or Follicle stimulating Hormone is adequate prior to Ovulation. The Yang aspect is the Fire side of the cycle, that is to say once Ovulation has taken place Yang becomes the dominant factor, when the follicle that has released the egg for fertilization, becomes what is known as the Corpus Luteum, it's job is to produce Progesterone to elevate the womans body temperature so that there is a warmer more suitable environment for implantation to take place, this also sends a signal to the brain to start producing more Progesterone and Lutenising Hormones to ensure that the elevated temperature remains high to aid implantation and developement of the fetus. If there are any irregularities during the cycle, this will throw everything out of balance and can cause difficulties concieving, this is where Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine may be able to assist in balancing the irregularities in the cycle, it can be a to short Follicular phase, or Luteal phase of the cycle, it can be to thin a lining to to the womb causing implantation problems, it may be Polycistic ovaries, Endometriosis or any number of other problems, but once the cycle is regulated and the Yin and Yang aspect of the cycle are in harmony, pregnancy may follow within a few cycles.
